No Mas, Congdon?
Coming on the heels of Gawker’s “tightening our belts” announcement arrives yet another blogging layoff, this time one that seems to big to be true: Amanda Congdon is with Rocketboom no longer.
Anybody got a shred of insight into what is Andrew Baron is thinking? Or is this just another sign that what Nick’s been saying all along is right — vlogging is just lame TV?
UPDATE 1 (10:25am pt): Upon further reflection, we just don’t believe this one. $40,000 commercials, a building audience with partnerships galore; Amanda, the aspiring actress that she is, totally capable of pulling a fake-out on us. If we’re wrong, our apologies to Ms. Congdon for mocking her — but we’re going on the record as saying we smell something fishy here. We’ll keep investigating, trying to figure out what Andrew Baron was thinking. Meanwhile, we’d imagine Ms. Congdon’s phone is ringing off the hook.
UPDATE 2 (11:05am pt): People are seriously broken up over this. We’re getting tearful emails here. Maybe it was the 1-2 punch of Ken Layne then Amanda….but people are taking this REALLY hard.
UPDATE 3 (12:45pm pt): Now Andrew is saying that Amanda left him. This is all starting to feel like a Star Blogebrity Magazine coverstory in the makings.
UPDATE 4 (2:30pm pt): Rocketboom speaks! And apparently, Amanda is going to be Blogebrity’s neighbor:
ROCKETBOOM ANNOUNCEMENT:
Amanda Congdon has decided to move to L.A. to pursue opportunities that have arisen for her in Hollywood.
We wanted to meet her demands to move production out to L.A., however, we are a small company and have not been able to figure out a way to make it work, financially and in many other ways at this time. While we continue to remain with open arms, Amanda has in fact quit and left Rocketboom. So sadly, we bid Amanda adieu and wish her all the best.
Rocketboom goes on.
Andrew Baron, the founder and creator of Rocketboom, will stay with the company in New York and will continue to produce and direct the show. We are in the daunting process of recruiting a replacement for Amanda.
While Amanda will be sorely missed, we have big plans for Rocketboom and are determined to make the show better than ever.
After Field Week and a week on hiatus, we know that you are hungry for the news! Rocketboom will be back with a news episode and an interim host this MONDAY, JULY 10.

Of course vlogging is lame. The buzz was due to overeager trendspotters anxious to find the next big thing. And honestly, I think podcasting will never rise about the hobbyist stage either.
